Anything a mother drinks is also passed on to the fetus. Alcohol is metabolized more slowly in the immature body of a fetus than in an adult. This results in alcohol levels remaining high and for a longer period of time in the fetus&#039;s body. The risk of miscarriage and stillbirth is also increased when the mother drinks alcohol.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even light or moderate alcohol consumption can affect a developing fetus. No amount of alcohol is safe. Therefore, pregnant women should not consume even small amounts of alcohol. A baby born to a mother who drinks alcohol during pregnancy may have <\/span><b>Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (FASD). This group of disorders includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are one of the most <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">problems that may arise from alcohol consumption during pregnancy. After birth, facial deformities are observed, while later their development is delayed compared to that of healthy individuals. It is not uncommon for them to also present mental retardation. They may also present problems with the development of the central nervous system and learning difficulties in the future.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Alcohol-related neurodevelopmental disorder (ARND). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children with ARND may not have full FAS. However, they have behavioral and learning difficulties due to alcohol exposure in utero. They have problems understanding math concepts, memory or attention problems, poor crisis management, and poor school performance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Alcohol-related birth defects (ARBD)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Birth defects associated with prenatal alcohol exposure may include abnormalities of the heart, kidneys, bones, hearing, or a combination of these.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The children with <\/span><b>FASD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may also have:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">low birth weight or short stature compared to similarly healthy newborns<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">facial deformities such as small eyes and a thin mouth<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hyperactive behaviors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">learning difficulties<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">developmental disorders, such as delayed speech and language development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sleep problems in infancy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vision or hearing problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heart, kidney, or bone problems<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no cure for it. <\/span><b>FASD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children who are diagnosed early and receive appropriate care are more likely to have better outcomes compared to neglected cases.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u039f\u03b9 \u03ba\u03af\u03bd\u03b4\u03c5\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9 \u03c0\u03bf\u03c5 \u03c3\u03c5\u03bd\u03b5\u03c0\u03ac\u03b3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 \u03b7 \u03c7\u03c1\u03ae\u03c3\u03b7 \u03b1\u03bb\u03ba\u03bf\u03cc\u03bb \u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03ac \u03c4\u03b7 \u03b4\u03b9\u03ac\u03c1\u03ba\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1 \u03c4\u03b7\u03c2 \u03b5\u03b3\u03ba\u03c5\u03bc\u03bf\u03c3\u03cd\u03bd\u03b7\u03c2. &nbsp;
