However, there are cases where medical intervention or even surgical removal may be necessary.<\/p>\n<h3>WHEN IS A CYST HARMLESS?<\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>functional cysts<\/strong> They form during the menstrual cycle and are a result of normal hormonal changes. Usually:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They do not cause symptoms.<\/li>\n<li>They disappear automatically within a few cycles.<\/li>\n<li>They are detected incidentally on a gynecological ultrasound.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also, the <strong>corpus luteum cysts<\/strong> that appear after ovulation are usually absorbed by the body without requiring treatment.<\/p>\n<h3>WHEN DOES A CYST NEED MEDICAL FOLLOW-UP?<\/h3>\n<p>Some cysts may cause symptoms such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pelvic pain or discomfort.<\/li>\n<li>Pressure on the bladder or bowel.<\/li>\n<li>Cycle disturbances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In these cases, the gynecologist monitors the progression of the cyst with regular ultrasounds and may recommend conservative treatment, such as birth control pills to prevent new cysts.<\/p>\n<h3>WHEN IS SURGERY NEEDED?<\/h3>\n<p>Removal of an ovarian cyst may be necessary if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It has a large size.<\/strong> (usually over 5-7 cm.).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Does not subside after a few months of monitoring<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>There is a risk of rupture or torsion of the ovary<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Causes severe pain and symptoms<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Looks suspicious on ultrasound<\/strong> and requires biopsy for further evaluation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Surgical methods include: <strong>laparoscopic cyst removal<\/strong> (minimally invasive) or, in rare cases, more extensive removal of the ovary if there is a serious risk of malignancy.<\/p>\n<h3>CONCLUSION<\/h3>\n<p>Most cysts are harmless and go away on their own.
