HOW TO PROPERLY PREPARE FOR A SCHEDULED SURGERY

Proper preparation before surgery is crucial for a smooth procedure and quick recovery. From pre-operative check-up to post-operative care instructions, following the right steps reduces risks and helps with a better recovery.

PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKUP AND EXAMINATIONS

Your gynecologist will guide you through the necessary preoperative tests, which may include:

  • Blood tests (general blood, coagulation, electrolytes).
  • Cardiological check-up (ECG and possibly heart ultrasound).
  • Chest X-ray, if deemed necessary.
  • Urological or gynecological examinations, depending on the type of surgery.

DIET AND HABITS BEFORE THE INTERVENTION

  • Avoid heavy meals and alcohol 24-48 hours before surgery.
  • Avoid any food at least 6-8 hours before surgery., especially if done under general anesthesia.

  • Wear comfortable, loose clothes to make you feel more comfortable when you leave the hospital.
  • Avoid makeup, creams and nail polish, as they may affect the anesthesia process.
  • Make sure you have escort, especially if the surgery requires hospitalization or there is a possibility that you will feel dizzy after anesthesia.

POSTOPERATIVE CARE
